That's because Berlin's famous Museum Island is, as of this week, finally back in full operation. For many years the massive complex - which was declared a Unesco World Heriatge Site in1999 - lay largely in ruin after the war - but since the mid-90s the various buildings have been restored one after another. First the Alte Nationalgalerie, then the Bode Museum, which reopened in 2006, and now thanks to British architect David Chipperfield, the Neues Museum. With its completion, all five museums on the island are accessible for the first time in 70 years. On Friday the museum opened its doors for a weekend public viewing - and our reporter Matthias Stamm joined the rush to see the newly restored interior.
