Bremen is often written off as Hamburg's ugly little sister but a closer look reveals that this northern city has a lot to offer. Germany's smallest city-state has a town hall that's over 600 years old and not far away stands the Bremen Roland, a 5.47 meter high statue built by patricians in 1404 as a symbol of independence and since 2004 listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
