Some very famous faces on Europe's creative scene got behind the camera to film special episodes for Euromaxx, DW's lifestyle and culture TV show. The episodes give viewers a one-week backstage pass to the stars' lives.

For one week long, six prominent European artists will be in charge of the programming for DW's Lifestyle TV show, Euromaxx. Do you know the famous faces behind the episodes? DW introduces its guests.

Photoshoot with celebrity photographer Rankin
DW's Euromaxx presenter Meggin Leigh is used to being in front of the camera, but she was still surprised when Rankin, the famous British portrait photographer, offered to take her photo during production. Rankin is one of six artists who got to guest produce an episode of Euromaxx over a one-week period.

Andre Rieu brings the waltz to DW
The star violinist may have a packed calendar, but he still found time to produce a Euromax episode in his palace in the Dutch city of Maastricht (above). Despite his busy schedule, Rieu didn't show any signs of stress during the filming. He even took a few minutes to waltz with presenter Leigh — a welcome and uplifting break from the production work!

Tim Raue cooks up a show
Tim Raue (center), one of Berlin's top chefs, is known for his delicious culinary creations and for being somewhat of a loudmouth. Yet he showed the DW team his other side, too — that of a perfect host. Raue gave Euromaxx presenter Linda Bethke (at his right) a behind-the-scenes look at his kitchen and wine cellar and also shared his favorite hidden spots in Berlin with the TV team.

Designer Marcel Wanders shows off Amsterdam
Marcel Wanders has his product and interior design studio in Amsterdam, so for his DW episode, he took Euromaxx presenter Leigh for a stroll through the Dutch city. Wanders is famous for his Knotted Chair, but the designer and the TV team didn't have much time to sit and rest while producing the episode! They were on their feet to discuss the best camera positions for the show (above).

An intimate chat with Lavinia Biagiotti
Lavinia Biagiotti heads her family's famous Italian fashion house, the Biagiotti Group, but for her Euromaxx show, the CEO welcomed DW presenter Leigh into her own private home. She spoke openly and honestly about her mother, the designer Laura Biagiotti, who founded the fashion house. Leigh said Lavinia Biagiotti was one of the friendliest people she had ever met.

David Chipperfield: A British architect in Berlin
Chipperfield founded a global architecture firm that has had a Berlin office since 1997. On the cusp of his 65th birthday, he talked with Euromaxx presenter Meike Krüger about his hopes for the upcoming year. Chipperfield is also known as a passionate cook, but he didn't have a chance to show off his culinary skills in the show. Content for a new spin-off, perhaps?

Whether chef or musician, designer or photographer, each person stepped into the role of lead director for a day, presenting a program of choice alongside Euromaxx presenters Meggin Leigh, Meike Krüger and Linda Bethke.

Backstage pass into stars' worlds
The six guest producers are Dutch star violinist Andre Rieu, British architect Sir David Chipperfield, German star chef Tim Raue, Dutch interior designer Marcel Wanders, Italian fashion designer and businesswoman Lavinia Biagiotti, and British photographer and director Rankin.
The guests also got to choose the filming locations, which ranged from ateliers to galleries, apartments to palaces, all of them providing rare glimpses backstage into the professional and personal worlds of the stars.
Violinist Rieu opened the doors of his palace home in Maastricht, the Netherlands, to the DW team, even living up to his name as the "King of the Waltz" and sweeping two DW presenters across the parquet to the music's 1-2-3 beat. Photographer Rankin surprised Euromaxx presenter Leigh with a spontaneous photoshoot, while architect Chipperfield revealed what wishes he would like to see come true for his 65th birthday on December 18. Lavinia Biagiotti, the CEO of the Biagiotti fashion house founded by her mother, spoke about her mother's legacy and why she can't stand the term "fashion victim."
Episodes with surprises
The most surprising moments in the special series of Euromaxx episodes came about thanks to the guest creatives themselves. And that was exactly what was planned, said Rolf Rische, the head of DW's Culture and Lifestyle department. "A successful concept, which Euromaxx has been over the past 15 years, has to keep reinventing itself in order to excite its viewers," Rische said. "We are breaking new ground with this Euromaxx special edition in that we are not only reporting on prominent European creatives, but are entrusting our program to them and letting them call the production shots." Deutsche Welle will be broadcasting this Euromaxx special edition starting Monday, October 15, and lasting through Friday. Additional stories from the stars, as well as photos and videos from the episodes' production, will be available on Euromaxx's Instagram and Facebook accounts.
