Rising accident numbers mean many European cities are tightening the rules on e-scooters. Paris has banned them altogether and Germany is now introducing stricter rules for scooter rental companies.

According to Germany's government, current e-scooter rules no longer reflect the vehicles' rapid growth on the country's streets.

Brussels plans to remove shared e-scooters from its streets in January 2027.

DW's correspondents report from Paris and Brussels, and DW's anchor speaks with Dorottya Szemere, former chair of the e-scooter advisory group at the European Commission.
