European Commission Accused of Funding Terrorists

A report released by Germany’s Stern magazine on Tuesday alleges that subsidies managed by the European Commission may have found their way into the hands of terrorists. The magazine, citing internal documents from the Commission’s anti-corruption unit, OLAF, stated that the agency and Belgian federal police are currently investigating claims that EU grants to non-government organizations may have been used to finance terrorism. Some of those funds, the magazine reported, flowed to Al Aqsa, an organization based in Aachen that was banned by the Germany interior ministry as a terrorist organization last year. In banning the group, the government said Al Aqsa had sponsored the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.
