The head of the Turkish bishops' conference was killed this month in southern Turkey. Catholic bishop Luigi Padovese was stabbed to death in his home in Iskenderun. The 63-year-old apostolic vicar had repeatedly called for more rights for Christians living in Turkey. Turkey, where most of the population is Muslim, has seen a number of attacks on Christian priests in previous years, but until recently, the situation seemed to have calmed down.
