The European Commission plans to give a booster shot of 2- point 4- Bbillion euros from the EU budget to save the beleagured satellite navigation system Galileo. The planned system is meant to rival the current Global Positioning System operated by the United States. The 3.4 Bbillion euro project was left in the lurch after private companies opted out of the project.
