The European Parliament has awarded its top human rights prize to a Chinese dissident currently imprisoned in Beijing. The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought went to Hu Jia, one of China's most vocal advocates of democratic rights and religious freedom. He was imprisoned this year after testifying to the EU parliament about human rights violations in China.
