Europe is drawing consequences from the conflict between Russia and Georgia. The EU now wants closer ties to its eastern neighbors and to gradually bring Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Armenia into the European Union. EU-accession is still far off, but these countries will receive financial assistance to restructure their societies politically and economically.
