In China, we meet some retirees who are discovering a new sense of freedom by exploring their country in a caravan. By living simply, this form of travel is affordable and exhilarating – and allows them to discover remoter areas, far from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
This generation has benefited greatly from China’s economic boom and is now investing savings and its newly-gained time in long trips on the road. The country, they say, has changed beyond recognition since their own childhood. But they also feel the growing pressure on the younger generation, who struggle to afford the high living costs in the big cities.
