Austria's far-right politician Jörg Haider has died in a car crash. The 58-year old governor of Carinthia province triggered European Union sanctions against his country in 2000, when he led his right wing Freedom party into a national coalition government. Two years later the coalition fell apart, but Haider remained an influential and controversial figure in Austrian Politics.
