Female genital mutilation: Facts and figures

More than 140 million women worldwide have been forced to undergo female genital mutilation. It's a practice in which a woman's genitals, the clitoris and labia are cut off. It's a horrific tradition and many of the women suffer their whole life under what some societies have considered an essential social norm for more than 2,000 years.
