Bulgaria is one of the poorest countries in the EU. Almost half of Bulgarians live in poverty or close to it. The St. Trinity Monastery in Novi Han has become a place of refuge for the poorest of the poor. Father Ivan, who's known across the country, runs the St. Nicholas Orphanage here.
