Fischer Condemns Latest Attacks in Mideast

December 26, 2003

The German government on Friday condemned the latest suicide bombing attacks in Israel. German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said that the spiral of violence between Israelis and Palestinians should not be put back into motion after three months of calm. He called on both sides to do everything they could to avoid any further escalation. Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie also condemned Thursday's attacks on both sides and called for an immediate resumption of the road map for peace in the region. But Palestinian militants have vowed revenge for Thursday's Israeli helicopter strike against the commander of Islamic Jihad's military wing. An Israeli official called Thursday's Palestinian suicide attack another indication that the Palestinian Authority's terrorist infrastructure was always justone step away from lashing out at Israeli civilians.
