Five Killed in Bus Accident

August 25, 2003

Five Germans died Sunday morning after their tour bus ran off the autobahn and crashed into an embankment in the eastern state of Saxony Anhalt. An additional 17 suffered serious injuries, including the driver. Though a cause for the accident has not been established, police said the accident occurred at 2:40 a.m. The accident is the latest in a string of similar incidents across Europe involving large busses used by budget tour operators. Nineteen people died in a bus accident in Turkey over the weekend and another two in France’s Loire Valley region.
