Flashback: Gropiusstadt Turns 50

Back in the early 1960s Walter Gropius had a visionary urban planning idea for what was then West Berlin. His project would incorporate a pedestrian-friendly estate on the edge of the city, i.e. on the border to communist East Germany. Gropiusstadt has had a checkered history, but is today a popular place of residence for people who love the city but also life in the slow lane.
