United Nations envoy Kofi Annan has briefed the Security Council on his efforts to mediate an end to the conflict in Syria. He said it needs to be united in order to send a strong message to President Bashar al Assad. Meanwhile thousands of people continue to flee the fighting in Syria into neighbouring Turkey. On Friday Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed setting up a humanitarian buffer zone in the border region for refugees.
