Focus: German views of South Asia

Religious extremism, nuclear armament, ongoing regional conflicts: South Asia faces a number of demanding challenges. For German politicians, the stabilization of this key region is crucial.

Tension mounted along the India-Pakistan border as the Indian army ordered residents in border villages to evacuate and the air force moved more assets to the frontier air bases. Pakistan too, has deployed Medium Range ballistic missile batteries along the Line of Control. On Thursday Indian government ordered reductions in embassy staff and banned Pakistan airline entering Indian air space.
