Mounir Nasraoui, the father of teenage Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, was stabbed late Wednesday, several Spanish media outlets reported.

By Thursday morning, three people had been arrested, according to reports, while a fourth remained at large.

Newspaper La Vanguardia reported that Nasraoui was in a serious but stable condition.

The Catalan police lead the investigation into the attack but have not publicly commented on the incident.

It took place in the Rocafonda neighborhood of Mataro, around 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) north of Barcelona, where Yamal grew up and where his father and grandmother still live.

Around half of the population in Rocafonda live below the poverty line, according to Spanish statistics.

Eyewitnesses interviewed by La Vanguardia said Yamal's father was surrounded by a group of men while walking his dog. An argument ensued, and he was stabbed. He was rushed to the Can Ruti hospital.

Yamal made history at Euro 2024

Earlier this year, Yamal became the youngest player in European Championship history, aged 16 years and 338 days, in Spain's opening encounter with Croatia.

He was already the youngest to play for Barcelona and for Spain while also setting records for being the youngest goal scorer in the history of La Liga, the Spanish Cup, and his national team.

Yamal, now 17, scored against France in the semi-final of the Euroswhile the teenager also started the final, where Spain took the title by beating England 2-1.

Yamal's mother was born in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, while his father is from Larache, Morocco
