The stereotype of sophisticated and suave French romance has come under scrutiny due to recent developments. There are a growing number of sexual harassment complaints there.

The charges against former head of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn were dropped recently, but he now faces a new trial in his native France. Writer Tristane Banon has accused him of attempted rape. Growing numbers of women in the country are speaking out against sexual assaults by male colleagues, many of them managers and executives. Women have traditionally felt intimidated when bringing rape complaints – but they’re now forming a concerted new front against sexism.
