France's far-right Le Pen barred from running in elections

A court in France has found the figurehead of the far-right National Rally Party, Marine Le Pen, guilty of embezzlement of European Union funds. She has been barred from seeking public office for five years with immediate effect — effectively ruling her out of the next presidential election. Le Pen's lawyer has said she will appeal.
