Discover Frankfurt

DW-TVNovember 12, 2012

Frankfurt is known mainly as Germany's financial hub, with a skyline of shiny, glass skyscrapers. But the city also has a wider variety of museums and galleries to offer than almost any other city in Germany.

In Frankfurt, culture-hungry visitors have a good sixty museums to choose from.  The museum embankment along the Main River lies right across from the old town.  Among the venerable halls is the Städel Art Institute, one of the Germany's pre-eminent galleries.  Its voluminous collection represents 700 years of European art history. The Schirn art gallery in the heart of the old town presents exhibitions of international calibre.  Pablo Picasso, and Edvard Munch are just two of the famous names that have been shown here in a new and original context.

In addition to its major exhibition halls, Frankfurt has several museums devoted to specialized topics, among them the Film Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Caricatura museum of comic art.
