Franz Josef Jung has emphasized the government will not be sending a contingent to the Afghan South - Je 13.02.2008 18 UTC

The main association for German soldiers says boosting the number of Bundeswehr troops in Afghanistan and shifting them to the violent south makes no strategic sense and would stretch German military capacity. Bernhard Gertz, the head of the German Soldiers Union, also said there are no "plans for such a deployment". Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung has also reemphasized the government will not be sending a contingent to the Afghan South.
