Fraport Mulls Stake in Budapest Airport

June 28, 2005

Fraport, operator of Frankfurt airport, said Tuesday it was interested in acquiring a stake in Budapest airport, which is being privatized by the Hungarian government. "Pursuant to the invitation by the Hungarian Privatization and State Holding Company (APV), Fraport, together with Deutsche Bank, is submitting an expression of interest to participate in the two-round tender to acquire shares in Budapest Airport Rt. (BARt)," the German company said in a statement. With its strong growth potential, Budapest airport was of high strategic importance for Fraport, the statement said. The German company's own shareholders were "very supportive" of the bid, Fraport added.
