Freiburg won promotion back to the Bundesliga on Friday night with a 2-1 away win over Paderborn at the Benteler Arena. Mike Frantz and Nils Petersen grabbed the goals that sent their side up.

The Black Forest outfit scored two goals in two minutes immediately after half time to calm any nerves and, although Paderborn did pull a goal back well through Moritz Stoppelkamp on 57 minutes, they couldn't find an equalizer.

The result means that Freiburg have regained their spot in the German top division at the first time of asking, having been relegated from the Bundesliga last season.

Christian Streich's side have done remarkably well to keep their composure and consistency over the course of the season, having maintained a spot in the top three of the 2.Bundesliga for all but one of the competition's matchdays.

Friday's result means Freiburg can't finish any lower than second place and have gained automatic promotion with two games to spare. Red Bull Leipzig are favorites to take the second automatic promotion spot despite a 1-1 home draw with Arminia Bielefeld on Friday.

As they celebrated after the final whistle, Freiburg fans may have already been looking forward to re-entering the top flight, where they finished fifth as recently as 2013. The club will also be looking to banish the memory of getting relegated on the final day of the 2014/15 campaign after they were beaten by Hannover.
