Freiburg's most famous building is its Minster, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture which can be seen from miles around. Other hallmarks of Freiburg include the Bächle, small water channels which run through the city. It's thought they served to fight fires and provide drinking water for cattle during the Middle Ages.
Freiburg's old town is actually quite new. The original old town was completely destroyed during World War II, but has been lovingly reconstructed. The city is also home to "Zum Roten Bären", believed to be Germany's oldest inn. They've been welcoming guests here for close to 700 years. Freiburg is also a paradise for cyclists, boasting 500 kilometers of bike paths. There's no better way to take in the sights of the city and its picturesque surroundings.
