The diplomatic fallout from the conflict in Georgia is escalating. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has suggested the US may have deliberately provoked the war in an attempt to give an advantage to Republican John McCain in the upcoming presidential election. For its part, Washington says it is thinking about scrapping a civil nuclear agreement with Moscow as a punishment for its actions in Georgia. The European Union is due to hold a summit on Monday to consider ITS response - and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner says sanctions against Russia MAY be an option
