They escaped one war only to lose their children to traffickers. In Tigray’s Hitsats camp, parents desperately fundraise to free loved ones held in Libya, as thousands more attempt the same deadly route.

In northern Tigray’s Hitsats camp, families who survived one war find themselves caught in another battle. The fight to keep their loved ones alive. Camp officials estimate that almost half the families have someone who left in recent years. Most head north through Sudan, hoping to reach Libya and then Europe. But the journey has become a trap for trafficking and extortion.
