Günter Grass Reads for St. Pauli

May 13, 2004

Nobel Prize laureate Günter Grass is set to give a reading to support the Hamburg soccer team St. Pauli. The reading will be the highpoint in a series of benefits for the third division soccer club called "The Art of Promoting." Grass' performance in St. Pauli's home stadium on June 6 will be broken into two 45-minute halves interrupted by a halftime interval. "It would be nice if soccer fans would visit a reading for the first time on this day and lovers of literature would come to a soccer stadium for the first time," St. Pauli president Corny Littmann said. Grass, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999, is a well-known supporter of the Bundesliga's SC Freiburg.
