Garzweiler coal mine has swallowed 20 villages

The Garzweiler open-cast lignite mine in western Germany produces 35 million tons of brown coal a year. The mine has swallowed up more than 20 villages in the past 60 years. And the ground under the region still holds valuable reserves.
