As the ceasefire in Gaza is holding to some degree, displaced Palestinians have begun to return to their shattered homes. The UN says 81% of all structures in the Strip were damaged during the war between Israel and Hamas.

Displaced Gaza residents like Mahmoud Ayyoub have begun returning to what remains of their homes after two years of Israel-Hamas war, navigating rubble and danger.

Ayyoub's neighborhood is barely livable — no water, no roads, and the threat of renewed war looms.

Nearby areas remain under Israeli control, making return impossible for many. Despite the ceasefire, hope is fragile, and life remains on hold.
