Voters in Afghanistan are due to elect a new parliament on Saturday. But on the eve of the vote, security difficulties threaten to disrupt the poll. At the moment, election officials say about one thousand of the country's seven thousand polling stations may have to remain closed because of fear of attacks. Taliban rebels have already made repeated threats to sabotage the elections. They say one of their primary targets will be women who are standing for public office.
