Gem Boycott Pains Myanmar

January 15, 2008

Human Rights Watch has urged people to boycott jewellery from Myanmar until the military junta ends its repression against pro-democracy activists. The New York-based human rights group asked consumers and merchants not to buy jade, rubies, and other gems from Myanmar ahead of a gem auction, which began on Tuesday in Yangon and lasts until Saturday.
