And this comes against the backdrop of a general mistrust of politicians in recent years - with their image seriously tarnished by a series of scandals. That is reflected in a surge of independent candidates in this election. And established parties are also fielding several fresh faces - with their reputations unblemished by the sleaze of the past. Our correspondent Birgit Maas caught up with two such candidates to find out more.
