Georgia: Caught Between East and West

Georgia has surprised many in the world community. Against all odds, the small country in the Caucasus is witnessing a peaceful and democratic change of power.

Billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili was the big winner in October's parliamentary elections. It's likely he will be sworn in as Georgia's next prime minister in 2013. Ivanishvili has pledged to work closely with the West, with a view to having Georgia join the EU and NATO. But he also hopes to restore diplomatic and trade ties with Russia, which were severed following the Russo-Georgian War in 2008.
