German carnival artist charged in Russia for defaming Putin

A German artist is accused of defaming the Russian state by creating carnival floats featuring satirical depictions of President Vladimir Putin. Jacques Tilly is being put on trial in absentia in a Russian court.

German carnival artist Jacques Tilly faces a defamation trial in Russisa over his Putin-themed floats. Tilly refuses to be intimidated, calling the case an attack on free expression. Known for his sharp political caricatures, he continues his work as Russia pursues charges that could lead to arrest abroad. The trial, filed in December, has been repeatedly postponed.
