German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on NATO members to improve military coordination in crisis areas such as Afghanistan. At a meeting of German armed forces commanders in Berlin, Merkel also reaffirmed Germany's opposition to extending its military role in Afghanistan to the volatile south. The US especially has been pushing for Germany to take on more duties in the region.
