German Passports More Expensive Than Flying

Germans will now have to pay five times more for their passports. The German Newspaper Handelsblatt mentioned that the citizens would have to dig deep into their pockets and pay for the new biometric data saved in the passports themselves. The Green Party parliamentarian Silke Stokar said that the new fees would be something around €130. Stokar added "The passport would now be more expensive than the cheap flights booked over the Internet." Till now the Interior Ministry had kept quiet as to who would pay for the expensive documents. At present, a German passport costs €26 and €13 for those who under 26 years.
