February 19, 2004
German travel giant TUI plans to buy the airport near Conventry, England, a month before its own airline will make the location its hub. A company spokesperson confirmed a British newspaper report on the plans. The West Midlands International Airport, will turn from a hub for cargo planes into the home base of Thomsonfly.com, TUI's new low-fare airline, according to the spokesperson. Thomsonfly.com will shuttle passengers to 11 vacation spots in southern Europe and will begin service March 31.
