The Alternative for Germany won Sunday's vote in the eastern state of Thuringia — where it's considered by German intelligence to be an extremist organization. The AfD also came a close second in the neighboring state of Saxony. Its chances of governing, however, remain slim as all mainstream parties refuse to cooperate with it.
