Germans who were abused at orphanages and care homes during the 1950s and 1960s are to receive compensation from a fund amounting to 120 million euros in total. That was the recommendation of a commission set up to discuss remedies for the beatings and neglect many suffered at the hands of caregivers employed by state and church-run institutions.
