Flights in and out of Berlin's airport remain suspended for a second day because of black ice covering the runway. City authorities are struggling to keep roads and sidewalks safe for pedestrians.

Berlin's severe winter weather has caused major travel disruption. Snow and ice have forced delays and cancellations at the city's airport, stranding passengers.

Public transport has also been affected. Icy roads and sidewalks have led to a surge in injuries from falls, with hospitals reporting their highest numbers in a decade. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors as more snow is expected over the weekend.
