As the countdown to the 2006 World Cup in Germany continues, the host country's pre-tournament arrangements are also being finalized. German coach Jürgen Klinsmann's squad will play its final tune-up matches against Japan on May 30 in Leverkusen and on June 2 in Mönchengladbach against a team the German Football Association would only call "an attractive opponent." The World Cup finals begin June 9 in Munich with Germany hosting a yet-to-be-drawn opponent in the tournament opener. Originally there were plans to play three friendly matches in the lead up to the World Cup, but Klinsmann requested a match be dropped so his players could focus on the finals.
