Police took a late-night emergency call from a young man who didn't know where he was and said he was injured. He'd fallen from a pub into a neighboring butcher's yard, where he found ample snacks as he awaited rescue.

A drunk young man called emergency services shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday night in the southern town of Schwäbisch Hall, telling the operator that he did not know where he was.

As he also said he was injured, officers launched a search operation .

"The 28-year-old man could be located shortly thereafter on the shop floor of a closed butcher's on the Am Spitalbach street," police said in a statement.

Based on preliminary investigations, police said that the man appeared to have fallen out of a pub window, "possibly as a result of his alcohol intake," and into the interior yard of the butcher's next door.

He subsequently gained entrance to the store.

"After that, he consumed several sausages and alerted police," the authorities said.

The man was taken to a nearby clinic in an ambulance for treatment.

Sausages taken out of cold storage

The butcher shop's branch manager, who was alerted by police just before 1 a.m. on Thursday, expressed surprise. "The person was just lying there in our shop," said Nadja Merkel.

She reported that a pigeon net on the building had been torn and the door to the butcher shop damaged and two sausages were taken out of cold storage.

Police did not mention whether or not the butcher was compensated for their wares. The authorities also did not provide details about the man's injuries. He was not able to respond to questions, a police spokesperson said in the morning, adding that he was being investigated on suspicion of a property crime.
