The Justice Ministry of Germany's state of Lower Saxony confirmed on Tuesday that the man suspected of killing six people at a youth and womens' shelter in the town of Stade last month had died by suicide.

Identified as Fatih Khan G. due to Germany's privacy laws, the ministry said there was "no indication of third-party involvement" in his death.

What happened in Stade?

G. is believed to have opened fire at the center for mothers and children, killing six welfare workers.

According to authorities, his three-month older daughter and her 34-year-old month were residing there. He had been in a custody dispute with his former partner over the baby, who showed signs of shaken baby syndrome.

He had reportedly previously threatened a doctor at a medical practice where his daughter had been seen.

He came to the shelter on June 29 to allegedly discuss accusations he had physically abused the baby. G. attempted to flee in a car but was caught shortly thereafter by police.
