Germany rehearses mass evacuations for a NATO war

The threat from Russia has pushed Germany to carry out its biggest war drill of its kind in decades — testing its readiness for mass evacuations of wounded allied soldiers from NATO's eastern border in Lithuania.

Germany has carried out its largest medical exercise in decades as NATO prepares for the possibility of large‑scale war with Russia. The Quadriga 2026 drill simulated evacuating wounded soldiers from Lithuania to hospitals across Germany.

Experts warn the system could face up to 1,000 casualties a day, while new drone‑related injuries and attacks on medics raise the risks. The exercise aims to reveal gaps — and determine whether Germany is truly ready.
