More than 25,000 protesters gathered in Giessen to protest against the founding meeting of the far-right Alternative for Germany's new youth wing.

More than 25,000 people gathered in Giessen to protest Germany’s far-right AfD party. Demonstrations were mostly peaceful, but police used water cannons after stones and bottles were thrown. Protesters blocked access to the venue, delaying the event where AfD co-leader Alice Weidel condemned street violence as “undemocratic.” AfD remains Germany’s largest opposition party, sparking fears of rising extremism and deepening political divides.
