Kenya's talent heads to Germany's hospitality sector

In 2024, Kenya and Germany signed a migration partnership to create legal pathways for skilled Kenyans to work in Germany. Since then, German recruiters have been in Nairobi seeking talent.

DW correspondent Felix Maringa attended a recruitment drive in Kenya, where candidates competed for rare training and job opportunities in Germany’s hospitality sector. Out of 400 applicants, only 34 met the German language requirements. For hopefuls Ruth Wairimu and Alfred Mburu, the move promises better pay and a new life, though learning the language remains a challenge. According to German agencies and Bavarian hotels, motivation and strong communication skills are key to success.
