Violence against women is a reality everywhere — in Germany, too. How can that be? What must be done to change this?

Anna has been living in a women's shelter for a year. She is in need of special protection because her husband tried to kill her and threatened their children. This is no isolated case. The most dangerous place for a woman is her own home. On average, a partner or ex-partner subjects a woman in Germany to violence every four minutes. Why is that? We speak with some women who have experienced domestic abuse, as well as a perpetrator who beat his wife many times. We also ask what policymakers and society can do to combat gender-based violence.
