Germany's Federal Prosector Kay Nehm is hoping for U.S. support in the retrial of a Moroccan man suspected of involvement in the Sept. 11 attack. He wants George Tenet, the head of the Central Intelligenge Agency (CIA), to take the stand as a witness, according to news reports. Nehm also wants Ramzi Binalshibh, the alleged coordinator of the attacks, as well as al Qaeda operative Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to testify during the trial. Both men are in U.S. custody. Citing national security concerns, American officials have so far rejected requests to let the men testify in several Hamburg trials of Sept. 11 terror suspects. Mounir Motassadeq, the only man worldwide who has been convicted in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks so far, was freed from prison earlier this year after Germany's Federal Court threw out a 2003 conviction by a Hamburg court because possible evidence from the two men was withheld during his original hearing. The retrial is scheduled to begin in August.
